You won't leave untouched.

I had the honor and privilege to return to Honduras along with my husband Mike; our Mission Council President, Bob; our ever hardworking interpreter Hilda; and the delightful, Audrey.   This was my fifth visit to Honduras and I was struck at just how far “our little school” has come.  Much of the progress is due to Nelson, the school’s director.  He is tireless in his efforts to reach out to everyone in the community.  Nelson clearly understands the concepts of “no child left behind” and “it takes a village…”

These concepts were never more evident than when we attended the school’s graduation preparations and ceremony.  I cannot put into words the sense of pride that was present in the students, and especially on the faces of their families.  These students now have skills that will allow them a better life.  The past and present Mayor along with the Bishop of the diocese also attended the ceremony, giving the students one more “stamp of approval” and reason to be proud of their great achievements.

It is true that there is a lot of corruption in Honduras but Nelson is teaching not only kids but the whole community that it doesn’t have to be like that.  There is another way.  Through outreach, education, caring, and faith everyone can make a difference.  Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Colleyville, Texas is helping to make a big impact on this much needed and very deserving community.  My wish would be that each GSCC member would get the privilege of seeing firsthand the difference that   Fray Casimiro Cypher Center and Nelson are making in the lives of so many that wouldn’t otherwise have such an opportunity.  Come to Honduras and see, smell and feel it firsthand!  You won’t leave untouched.  -Cheryl

The Incredible Adventure of Christian Marriage

Judy and George Clark who are co-directors of  Family & Adult Ministry and Counseling Services for St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Plano, Texas graced a group of Good Shepherd married couples with “The Incredible Adventure of Christian Marriage”.  This lively couple presented to a wealth of married couples  ranging from newly-weds to over 45 years. Judy and George showed that the spiritual and the psychological (human) sides of married life are complementary. In our Catholic marriages, we not only partake in the sacrament, but we ARE the sacrament lived in each moment of our lives. This was beautifully seen in how the symbols and traditions of the Mass are reflected in our marriage vocation. Through couple exercises, we were given useful tools to aid in fine tuning our married relationships in areas that tend to be sources of problems, frustrations, or irritations to a spiritually graced and fulfilling marriage. Judy and George illustrated their points with simple examples, many from their own marriage, often with the touch of humor that exists in all of us.
Judy and George’s presentation was another program for helping to enrich married couples. It was sponsored by Good Shepherd’s Marriage Enrichment team.  -Michael and Christa
